I have met a lot of very nice people and organizations along the way and would like to share them with you. Please check out the following links to some of them:
My absolute, most favorite animal society is Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah. Best Friends Animal Society is guided by a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us. In the late 1980's, when Best Friends was in its early days, roughly 17 million dogs and cats were being killed in shelters every year. Despite the commitment of shelter workers to the animal in their care, the conventional belief was that little could be done to lower that terrible number.
Best Friends' No More Homeless Pets campaign created a new vision A grassroots effort to place dogs and cats who were considered "unadoptable" into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. Since then, the number of dogs and cats being destroyed in shelters has fallen to approximately 5 million a year.
The work of Best Friends is supported entirely by the donations of their members.
Most of the animals who find their way to Best Friends have special physical or behavioral needs, and the Best Friends expert staff of veterinarians, trainers and caregivers offer them all the help they require. Most of them are ready to go to good new homes after just a few weeks of special care. A few, who are too old or too sick, or who have suffered extra trauma, find a home and haven at the sanctuary, and are given loving care for the rest of their lives.
I proudly donate a portion of my monthly sales to Best Friends Animal Society.
Josie, a/k/a Jopie, Jo, Jo-Jo, Jopie-Jo, Jo-Jo-Bee ... my loveable, huggable mutt from the Humane Society.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the Humane Society since that is where we found our dog, Josie when she was just a little pup. I adore my Jo-Jo-Bee. I am also a member of the Humane Society of the United States and donate as much as I can.
Last year I had a request to help the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society with their annual fundraising auction and I was more than glad to donate some of my stepping stones. My sister adopted her cat, Suzy from the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society. Please check out their website at http://www.berkeleyhumane.org
Gregg is a talented wood artist who creates whimsical dog breed card holders, planters and door stops. He also has accomplished quite a lot for the lucky pooches in his San Clemente neighborhood. He joined a Park & Rec committee and got the city to build a $275,000 dog park. In addition, he started a nonprofit corporation, The San Clemente Dog Lovers, which raised over $20,000 for improvements to their park. Kudos to Gregg -- Awesome job!! Another organization I am proud to list is Roanoke, Virginia SPCA. I have donated a couple of gift certificates to help with their 2010 fundraiser, "Puppy Love Ball". Kathy Perdue is the Director of Marketing & Special Events there and has done a fantastic job helping the RVSPCA care for thousands of homeless animals throughout a year's time.
